Again this year I left home about 6:00 AM and headed southeast toward Hellhole.
Unlike previous years, this time I took a direct route to Moncks Corner. Along the way
I stopped briefly at bridges over Fourhole Swamp near Vance, SC. I turned over several discarded
automobile tires and found a couple of Marbled Salamanders. On the road, I found a DOR adult Black
Racer. From one of the bridges, I spied a Banded Water Snake basking on a tree root.
I arrived at the Holiday Inn Express in Moncks Corner about 10:30 AM. I was fortunate to be
able to check in so early. I spent about 10 minutes in my room and then headed to Hellhole.
Win and Hope had some tasks to accomplish on the way down, so they were about an hour behind me.
