Chicken Turtle

Chicken Turtles are medium-sized turtles with topshell (carapace) length of 5 to 7 inches. These turtles prefer ponds, bogs and ditches. They have a "chicken-wire" pattern of light markings on the topshell and very long, striped necks.

Chicken Turtles are potentially found throughout the coastal plain of South Carolina. Along with other subspecies, Chicken Turtles are in the coastal states from North Carolina to eastern Texas and north into Oklahoma and Arkansas.
