Herping in Hellhole with Holmes - 2004

By Gene Ott

The Hellhole Bay area of Francis Marion National Forest is a wonderful place to observe nature. Reptiles and amphibians are especially active during Spring. Jeff Holmes, a South Carolina native, conservationist, and recording artist, annually organizes a outing in Hellhole of nature observation, fellowship, and entertainment. Attendees include professionals, friends and amateurs like myself, and fans of Jeff's music who refer to themselves as the Floatilla.

This was my second year to attend Jeff's event. My son, Win, went with me. We both had a wonderful time.

For a recounting of this year's event through my eyes, continue on.
